University of the Pacific Department of Theatre Arts will start 2015 with a bang with “Synergy Across Time and Space,” a University of the Pacific Arts and Lectures exploration of Shakespeare in Brazil and the Spanish-speaking Americas.
The lecture will be featuring special guest speakers Malu Drumond from Instituto Gandarela, as well as Mercedes de la Torre and Carlos Drocchi from Shakespeare Argentina. Both are fantastic organizations dedicated to William Shakespeare and translating his works for live theatre performances. Drummond will speak on the upcoming plans to construct a Brasilian Globe Theatre using the same architects that produced Shakespeare’s Globe in London, England. Torre and Drocchi will share video highlights of their recent production of COMO LES GUSTE (AS YOU LIKE IT) as well as address issues of translation.
This very special event is sponsored by Pacific Arts and Lectures and the Department of Theatre Arts, with additional support from Phi Beta Kappa, Latin American Studies, and the Humanities Center.
